The predella of the Sant Miquel de Prats altarpiece consists of five panels portraying scenes from the Passion of Christ. This is a conventional arrangement of the section closest to the altar table and the tabernacle. The decisive moments shown are the Arrest of Jesus, Christ before Pilate, the Crucifixion of Christ, the Lamentations over the Dead Christ and the Tomb of Jesus. Considering its chronology, the altarpiece is in the Late Gothic style, characterised by the high quality and richness of the pigments and gold that embellish it and attest to the importance of its patrons. The depiction leans towards classical cultural conventions in its figurative styles, the proportions of the human figure and the compositions. A pictorial exponent of La Seu d’Urgell and l’Alta Ribagorça, the artists draw on their own style influenced by trends from the Italian and Northern High Renaissance. They demonstrate their broad knowledge of painting and graphic art as they are able to assimilate and reflect the latest developments in drawing and composition as seen in Italian Raphaelite prints and the engravings of Marcantonio Raimondi, featuring figures that are more Italianate in appearance and richer in the range of clothing, in harmony with Northern, Flemish and German engravings, particularly the visionary world of Albrecht Dürer and Martin Schongauer.
